10 Rock Bands That Got Banned For Stupid Reasons
5. KISS' Devilish Deeds
It's hard not to see KISS as somewhat of a cartoon nowadays. Compared to the more macabre stuff that we've seen out of acts like Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, and Rob Zombie, it's almost cute looking back and thinking that the unholy tones of Gene Simmons was anything to get worked up about. On the other hand, things got a lot nastier when dealing with these four rock gods back in the '70s.
As the band first started to gain traction off of their live album Alive!, people were lining up to denounce what they stood for. From suspicions of Simmons spitting real blood during the show to Ace Frehley actually being an extra-terrestrial being, the rumors ran rampant throughout the country. The only one that actually got them in hot water though was when KISS was thought to be an acronym for Knights In Satan's Service, looking to lead children away from religion.
However, talking about the horrors of a shock rock act is literally like poking a beast. Instead of just correcting the rumors, everyone in the group tended to go along with it, with Simmons playing up his Demon persona even more whenever he took to the stage. While most of the KISS legend has gone the way of business in recent years, you can't deny that they knew that parents' fear was profitable.
