10 Rock Bands That Have Terrible Frontmen
3. Creed
Once grunge got big, you could practically hear a group of record label executives laughing maniacally. As much as the era of flannel and decrepit street clothes seemed to be about going against authority, the fact that people made their millions off of that goodwill feels downright treasonous to the genre's core ethos. If you wanted to get the real bottom of the barrel though, you'd need look no further than Creed.
While many post grunge haters would probably save this spot for someone like Chad Kroeger of Nickelback, Scott Stapp's croon stings that much more when you know the people that he has working with him. Across the board, the band behind Creed is absolutely amazing and have made some great riffs in their day, which is all but thrown into the trash compactor when Stapp gets his soulful yarl on.
Though many have taken aim at the Christian undercurrents in Stapp's lyrics, the real crime is the heavy handedness that he sings it with, making it seem like the most mindblowing thing in the world when it's really just a bunch of tried and true cliches that became derivative a decade before these songs were even written. Nickelback might have always been mediocre for your average rock band, but the worst offenders are the disappointments rather than the outright failures.
