10 Rock Bands That Have Terrible Frontmen
2. Fall Out Boy
Taking on the frontman role in any major rock band can feel like a big job at first. Aside from the usual lead singer hangups that come with everything, you're the one that's responsible for getting the audience going, putting a lot more of your physicality into the performance than just inhibiting your vocal range. So when you have a non presence behind the mic, things start to get boring really fast.
That's not even to say that Fall Out Boy is that bad a band to begin with. As the pop punk and emo genres started to come into their own, they certainly had their own personality, with Patrick Stump having an impressive vocal range that brought out a soulful element in their sound. When you asked him to open his mouth to doing anything else though, things got a lot less interesting.
Even on stage these days, pretty much any other member of Fall Out Boy is more interesting to watch in concert, from Andy Hurley's amazing drum performances to Pete Wentz having more personality than any one of them combined. Just think about that...you're in one of the biggest bands of your generation, and you're getting outshone by the goddamn BASS PLAYER of the group. No matter how many soulful runs you can do, nothing can cover up just being boring.
