10 Rock Bands That Outshine Their Lead Singer
1. Fall Out Boy
Being charismatic at what you do was pretty much the baseline for quality in the pop punk world. From the child-like innocence of Billie Joe Armstrong in Green Day to two different frontmen for the price of one in Blink-182, the importance of your band came just as much as from how you asserted yourself onstage and off than the actual music you played. In Fall Out Boy's case though, pretty much everyone besides Patrick Stump became the main draw.
On the surface though, it seems weird saying that considering Stump's amazing vocal abilities, which sat somewhere between a soulful sounding tenor and a powerful bellowing rock and roll singer. At the same time, the work of both Andy Hurley and Joe Trohman was enough to play circles around Stump, which they also bring out whenever they join the supergroup the Damned Things. To put this in perspective, Stump is one of the only people in rock history who got overshadowed by the bass player.
Across nearly every single album, people were much more inclined to see what was happening with Pete Wentz's relationship problems or his own lyrical bouts than anything going on with the dorky guy behind the mic. Even though he has risen in prominence since his first steps as a musician, most of the Fall Out Boy fans probably have better things to worry about than just Patrick Stump.
