10 Rock Bands That Quit At The Top
6. Tool
In the age of nu metal, there was no one in the world doing what Tool was doing. While every other metalhead was getting spiky hair and complaining about their childhood issues, these guys were reinventing what metal music could be with every record, from the prog rock masterpiece Lateralus to the craziness on Aenima. In the midst of all this craziness, no one would imagined they just...stop.
Compared to the rest of the bands on this list, Tool wasn't was never necessarily quit the touring life. Even though these guys did have their various solo outings like A Perfect Circle to fall back on, there was pretty much radio silence from their camp as to any new music on the horizon. While 10,000 Days was a great stop gap in between records, no one could have thought that that would be their final say.
With year after year of nothing, many were getting less and less interested in a new Tool album actually coming out. However, things did prove to be worth the wait when Fear Inoculum was eventually released last year, bringing the 13 year wait to a close at last. Now all we need to do is make sure that the next one doesn't come out in 2050.
