10 Rock Bands That Released 2 Masterpiece Albums In A Row

5. Pink Floyd

When any member of Pink Floyd passes away, they're going to go down in history as the band that made Dark Side of the Moon. Outside of being the go to retro poster that every college kid hangs on their wall, they managed to create something that stood as a study on how much life can drain you and how hard it can be to keep going sometimes. But carry on they did, and they decided to air their grievances quite literally on Wish You Were Here.

Taking the barebones of what they had been toying with on Dark Side, Wish You Were Here is a pure dissection of what it means to be a musician in the modern age, with people wanting a little piece of you wherever you go and everything relying on the bottom line. If Dark Side was about the struggle of the everyman, this album was the moment where you focus on the people who have to sacrifice their creativity to please the suits that run the record companies.

Both of these albums do have one man in its shadow, and that's Syd Barrett, who was let go from the band due to his declining mental state. As such, many songs on here have that melancholy laced throughout them, whether it's the full tribute on Shine On You Crazy Diamond or bringing the moon to its full eclipse at the end of Dark Side. At this point, these more stand as cautionary lessons for anyone working in the business: you'll get the fame you want, but be careful what you wish for.
