Legendary British rock band Pink Floyd were formed all the way back in 1965 and were absolutely crucial in the formation of progressive rock as a genre. Originally named the Tea Set, frontman Syd Barrett coined the name Pink Floyd Sound when he heard that another band had the same name at a local gig.

Syd was Pink Floyd's original lead singer, guitarist and principal songwriter, wowing audiences with his distinct singing accent and free flowing, innovative guitar techniques. With Syd at the helm, Pink Floyd would write their debut album The Piper at the Gates of Dawn in 1967 and start work on their second release A Saucerful of Secrets in 1968. However, by the late '60s it was clear that Syd's psychadelic drug abuses and mental health were deteriorating beyond control and the group eventually voted to move on without him.

Even without their star frontman, Pink Floyd went onto write 13 more acclaimed albums, open 12 live world tours and establish a legacy of being one of the best bands of all time. On top of their music, the group went on to record scores for films such as Zabrieski Point and The Committee.
