10 Rock Bands That Wrote Songs In Different Genres

2. Another One Bites the Dust - Queen

For all of the camp that they showed in their early years, there was never a moment where Queen didn't still feel like a true rock band. Going back through those first few albums, you can hear them toying with the sounds of metal and even bits of progressive rock when you listen to tracks like Ogre Battle and the Fairy Feller's Master Stroke. All of those may have fit comfortably in the rock mold, but something funny happened once disco started rearing its head.

As much as some bands were not really accustomed to the groove-centric sounds of Studio 54, John Deacon's bassline was almost too perfect for Queen to not take on, launching them into the disco world without losing an ounce of their credibility. While Queen were originally thinking about scrapping the entire song, they actually got a push from Michael Jackson after he visited the studio and insisted on them putting the song out as a possible single.

Jacko knows a hit when he hears one though, and this is the song that practically gave Queen a second wind in the public eye, turning them into pop stars along with the rock accolades that they already had under their belt. Then again, Queen were never snobs about genres as long it ended up sounding like them. Because no matter who wrote it, who sang it, or what style it was in, you always knew it was Queen whenever it came on the radio.
