10 Rock Bands Who Blatantly Copied Other Artists

9. Glycerine - Bush

There was a renewed sense of creativity in the rock scene when the alternative movement started happening. Whereas the hair metal movement felt like a slew of acts copying off of the same 5 bands, no one really sounded the same from Green Day to Nirvana to Pearl Jam to the alternative side of U2. In Bush's case, their new approach to songwriting was "just do what Kurt Cobain did."

Aside from the more grizzly features of Gavin Rossdale, most of Bush's first album is a clear homage to the Seattle sound happening across the pond. Though there are some songs on here worth some serious consideration like Machinehead and Comedown, Glycerine is one of the most blatant attempts at cribbing the vocal style of Cobain, as Rossdale reaches to get just the right amount of grit to sell the rest of the song.

Compared to some of the more open hearted material present in the old grunge bands, this is probably the closest the alternative nation ever got to a power ballad, feeling like it's as much indebted to the marketing plan of someone like Motley Crue or Def Leppard than it is to Mudhoney. Bush may have managed to squeak by on past glory, but the Cobain estate might have something to say about some overdue royalty checks.
