10 Rock Bands Who Blatantly Copied Other Artists
7. 4th Time Around - Bob Dylan
As the '60s revolution got underway, Bob Dylan could have made off like a bandit on the amount of royalties he could have had from people ripping him off. From the folk rock craze happening around the same time to the massive amount of Dylan soundalikes like Barry McGuire, Dylan had become the unofficial voice of his generation without even knowing it. He did have a playful side though, and that came out when he took a shot and one of the greatest pop groups of all time.
During the Beatles' ascent, John Lennon was taking massive influence from Dylan on each album, even making some blatant homages like on You've Got to Hide Your Love Away. Though the folk rock hit a peak with Rubber Soul, Dylan went the extra mile to parody Lennon on 4th Time Around, with a guitar line that was near identical to what was used in Norwegian Wood. When asked about the similarities, Dylan was always coy and said that Norwegian Wood sounded like his song but he recorded it later.
This was all in good fun though, prompting a competition of sorts between Lennon and Dylan which would continue until the end of Lennon's life in 1980. See, not all of the dustups have to necessarily end in a brawl, now do they?
