10 Rock Bands Who Blatantly Copied Other Artists
6. Mechanix - Megadeth
You could imagine that nearly anyone who was in Dave Mustaine's position would be annoyed at the hand he'd been dealt. While he has carved out a name for himself as one of the titans of the thrash metal genre with Megadeth, the fact that he got snuffed out of being the lead guitarist of Metallica has made him keep that little bit of resentment in each song he plays. Though it might be water under the bridge, things weren't so chipper when it came time to make the Mechanix.
In one of the more unique forms of plagiarism there is, Mechanix is the result of Mustaine rewriting Metallica's The Four Horsemen the way that he wanted, going so far as to make the tempo even faster than it is on Kill Em All. After all, most of the music for this song was Mustaine's to begin with, so it's not so much a means of royalties anymore.
Even when performing the song live these days, Mustaine makes light of the comparisons before they play Mechanix, saying that you can listen to it either his way or "their way" before exploding into the first few riffs. If they say geniuses steal though, it's another thing entirely to say that you stole from yourself.
