10 Rock Bands Who Only Have One Original Member Left
3. Queens of the Stone Age
If you were looking for something heavy in the early '90s, you couldn't do much better than stoner rock. Instead of the cheap hair metal and the gargantuan stuff that acts like Metallica would have, acts like Sleep and Monster Magnet were tuning their guitars way down to get a much more gutteral sound from their music. Though Kyuss stood out as one of the main draws, Josh Homme always had other plans in the back of his mind.
When it comes to stable lineups, Queens of the Stone Age is pretty much the definition of how not to do it. From day one, there hasn't really been a single person who has remained consistent outside of Homme. Though there have been people that have stuck around for a while like Nick Oliveri and Mark Lanegan, the crux of the band has only had Homme as the common thread. On the other hand, that might be the point.
Across every one of Queens' albums, you get the impression that you're not listening to a band per se but rather a collaborative project that Homme puts together to jam with every musician he loves. Though the Queens might have a more functional lineup whenever they take to the road, it's anyone's guess as to who they're going to be when they go in to actually make a record.
