10 Rock Bands With Amazing Live Shows
4. U2
The whole idea of a rock concert has got to be something other than some people coming out and playing on stools. Even as far back as the '50s, you had the wild man Jerry Lee Lewis tearing the roof off of every venue he played. That was all part of rock and roll folklore though, and U2 have always felt like you were stepping into the future every time they played.
Right out of the gate though, is it a little bit weird to see Bono getting preachy every now and again? Yes. However, once you look at the actual performance of these songs, you'll see why he's so passionate about these kind of things. Born out of the punk scene, U2 have always stuck to their belief of music having the power to move you, whether that be just through the power of the music or the subject matter at hand.
One killer frontman does not work alone though, and The Edge's guitar figures have always been a wall of sound every time they go off in a stadium. For all of their stage design, they also deserve some credit for the larger than life sounds of the Zoo TV tour, creating the kind of spectacle that feels like it's ripped straight out of Orwell's 1984 and manages to still feel badass. As far as they're concerned, there's much more to rock and roll than just this, and the fans have always gone along for the ride. Whenever you come out of a U2 gig, the world feels just a little bit different as a result.
