10 Rock Collaborations That Made Absolutely No Sense

2. Rush/Aimee Mann

Ever since starting out, Rush's music was always centered around an evolving musical idea. Though they always fit in the realm of prog rock in their time, there was no real genre of music that was really off the table for these Canadian icons, going from long prog stretches to the sounds of reggae and synth rock in the '80s. While most devotees were along for the ride, the inclusion of Aimee Mann was definitely a change of pace no one saw coming.

Fresh off of their synth period album Power Windows, the opening single from Hold Your Fire was a real refresher on Time Stand Still, as we get an actual female voice working off of Geddy Lee's already high tenor voice. Then again, it's a stretch to really call something like this a duet though, as Mann really just operates to say the song's title and occasionally harmonize with Ged as he takes the reigns through most of the song.

It does function as a great duet all the same though, as Rush end up using Mann's voice as a garnish in this already delicious music confection that they've created. As much as this song has the '80s tattooed on its forehead, the amount of hooky material on here is enough to save it from being too dumb for its own good.
