10 Rock Guitarists Who Were In Two Amazing Bands

8. John 5 - Marilyn Manson/Rob Zombie

Most hard rock guitarists would kill to have the rap sheet that John 5 has accumulated over the years. Instead of just being tied to one band, his history behind the scenes as a session guitar player has made him a musical Swiss Army knife, working with everyone from Ace Frehley to Ricky Martin in some capacity. If you really want to get a taste of what John can do though, it comes down to 2 of the most shocking frontmen of the '90s.

Before going completely industrial, John was a lowly session guitar player working with some heavy hitters in the hard rock scene like David Lee Roth and Judas Priest's Rob Halford. As the grunge scene started to fade away, John ended up getting a call from Marilyn Manson, after which he became the guitarist on albums like Mechanical Animals and Holy Wood.

However, these kind of relationships aren't meant to last, with John leaving Manson's world with somewhat of a bitter fallout. Quickly finding his feet again, John found a new ghoulish friend in Rob Zombie, with whom he's remained a staple ever since. Compared to his previous outfits, Zombie himself cited John as the reason for him to keep making music, making the allure of the stage feel better than directing movies. Running the gamut from virtuoso shred to industrial crunch to even hee-haw style licks, John 5's talents should practically be a musical encyclopedia for any rock guitarist.
