10 Rock Music Bands Who Had Huge Potential (And Wasted It)
7. At The Drive-In
Not many rock bands could get away with having a lead singer called Cedric, but this group from El Paso, Texas weren't taking no for an answer.
Fronted by Cedric Bixler-Zavala (an astonishing name), At the Drive-In formed in 1994 and would go on to release a trio of albums throughout the late 90s and early 2000s. Fusing clean, melodic sound with more hardcore-style vocals, the band stood out from their contemporaries and wowed most people lucky enough to see them play.
Their third album, Relationship of Command, seemed to signal big things, as critics lapped it up and it sold enough to go gold in both the UK and Australia. Whilst everything looked good on the outside, behind the scenes, things were starting to unravel.
Disagreements about the future of the band's music led to arguments which, alas, resulted in the breakup of At the Drive-In in 2001. Though they have reunited since then, they've never gotten themselves back to the edge of greatness they once found themselves on.
On the bright side, Cedric would go on to co-found the Mars Volta with guitarist Omar Rodríguez-López. Happy days.
