10 Rock Music Bands Who Had Huge Potential (And Wasted It)

8. The Replacements

Combining their love of conventional rock with the punk music that emerged during the 1970s, American band The Replacements found themselves pioneering the alternative rock movement at the beginning of the 80s.

After the release of their first album, Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash (great name), the band released a slew of records across the decade, including one that was bafflingly titled Let It Be.

Uhh, there might already be an album called that, guys.

The band became known for their eclectic live performances, which often involved an ungodly amount of booze. Whilst this did wonders for their reputation, it did little to sell themselves as a reliable booking, and their popularity stagnated.

Following a catastrophic stint opening for Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, The Replacements released their final album (which was actually a minor hit) and then went their separate ways. Though they made some great music and their influence on the business lives on, they just couldn't get it together long enough to have a real chance at stardom.

If only they'd copied more Beatles album titles. That would have fixed it.
