10 Rock Music Bands With Two Incredible Guitarists
2. Lynyrd Skynyrd
Some bands take a little time to reach the lofty heights of having three guitarists. Others just go for it right out of the gate.
When it came time for Lynyrd Skynyrd to record their first album, they were in a bit of a pickle. They were famous for their triple guitar attack during live shows, but plans to replicate that on record were tanked when guitarist Leon Wilkeson quit.
To get around this issue, they recruited bass player Ed King and told him to pick up a six string. King, along with regular guitarists Allen Collins and Gary Rossington, helped fill out the chunky parts on some of the band's songs. Even if you want to remove him from the equation, Collins and Rossington still made quite the pair. They switched between lead and rhythm across the album, which includes the incredible Free Bird as its closer.
Sadly, Collins never re-joined the band following their infamous 1977 plane crash, limiting the amount of material he and Rossington got to record together. Honestly though, the fact that Free Bird exists is something that should be celebrated regardless.
