10 Rock Music Bands With Unique Selling Points

2. Dogs - Caninus

Even though they're actually automatons made out of recycled scrap, at least the "lead singer" of Compressorhead is just a man singing off stage. As for the band Caninus, their vocalists aren't human in any way, shape, or form.

In 2003, former Most Precious Blood guitarist Justin Brannan formed Caninus, a deathgrind band with vocals from two pitbull terriers, Budgie and Basil. This is 100% real - the dogs were the singers.

Budgie and Basil would bark and growl over the top of a thrashing backing track, although this was before autotune was widely available, so sadly their noises could not be fashioned into actual words. Instead, Caninus is, to be honest, mostly unlistenable, as it's just a collection of dog sounds over the top of some un-rhythmic metal.

However, this is also definitely somebody's thing; it has to be.

Sadly, Caninus came to a tragic end in 2011 when Basil was diagnosed with a brain tumour and had to be put down. The band split up, and everyone went their separate ways, including Brannan, who ended up as an elected member of New York City Council. How is that somehow weirder than the singing dogs?
