10 Rock Music Guitarists Who Outshone Frontmen
5. Mark Tremonti - Creed
Making a band like Alter Bridge was probably the best thing the members of Creed could have asked for.
Now they could flex their musical chops a bit more and not have to worry about Scott Stapp sprinkling his meme-worthy Eddie Vedder-isms all over everything. When Creed was at their height though, Mark Tremonti's guitar work was still well above average for your typical rock band.
Since most people assumed that Creed was a Christian rock band based on their first few singles, they'd be surprised to hear about Tremonti's interest in bands like Mercyful Fate, which comes through every time he picks up a guitar.
In between the more groan worthy moments, his licks on songs like Higher and Bullets are the kind of satisfying ear candy that make people want to pick up a guitar themselves.
And that's where Tremonti really falls on the musical spectrum more often than not. From day one, he's always felt like the guitar player's guitar player, playing stuff in between the cracks that feels amazing when you actually hear it in context.
From My Own Prison up until his latest solo releases, there's never been one album that hasn't had some degree of brilliance behind it. See... now you have a reason to go dig up those old Creed records. They're so much more than just a guilty pleasure band.
