10 Rock Music Songs That Got Banned From Certain Countries

6. God Save The Queen - Sex Pistols (United Kingdom)

Finally, a song the BBC banned for a decent reason.

Though they were around for only three years in their original form and released just one album, the Sex Pistols ripped through British cultural like a violent wildfire and are still remembered by many as the quintessential punk band of the 1970s.

The aforementioned album, Never Mind the B*llocks, Here's the Sex Pistols, was released in 1977, which just so happened to be the year Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her Silver Jubilee.

And wouldn't you know it, the album had a song on it that called the Queen a fascist! What are the chances...

God Save the Queen was the band making their feelings on monarchy very clear and the establishment did not take too kindly to this. The BBC banned it from being played, as did regulatory body the Independent Broadcasting Authority.

Did any of this stop people from buying the song? Absolutely not.

It peaked at number two in the UK charts, with some claiming that it would have been number one, had the numbers not been fiddled with to keep it off the top spot.

Whatever the truth is, this is a little slice of British history right here.
