10 Rock Music Songs That Were Almost Never Released
8. Lazy Sunday - Small Faces
British band Small Faces are one of the great "What ifs?" of the 1960s. Had they been around for longer than four years, they might have become one of the biggest groups of the era, but fate had other ideas.
In their short existence, they managed to release several classics, including Itchycoo Park, Tin Soldier, and Lazy Sunday from 1968. Although, if the band had gotten their way, then this ode to the weekend would never have seen the light of day.
The song, which features lead singer Steve Marriott getting into an argument with his neighbours, wasn't initially going to be released as a single, but the record label had other ideas.
Whilst the band were on tour in Germany, Lazy Sunday was greenlit without their knowledge. This perceived infraction only weakened relations between Marriott and management, and the singer was out the door by the end of the year.
Did this decision pay off? Well, the song did reach second place in the UK, but was that really worth breaking up the band?
If it made them money, then the label would probably say yes.
