10 Rock Music Songs That You Didn't Know Were About Drugs
8. Semi Charmed Life - Third Eye Blind
There are always a handful of songs that get to the top of the charts where you totally miss the point of the song. How many of you guys thought that Killer Queen was actually about royalty before it was revealed to be about a prostitute? It's not uncommon for artists to play with your expectations, or in this case, a full on bait and switch in a song.
From the first time you put on Semi Charmed Life, it's the epitome of California sunshine, having the same style of power pop that defined the late '90s. So what makes Stephen Jenkins think that his life is necessarily semi-charmed? Well, crystal meth....a lot of crystal meth. It's not exactly subtle either, with the verses going through different instances of him either getting high, running from the law, and partaking in group sex just to feel something.
Then again, no one would blame you if you didn't pick up on that on first listen, especially considering our man is pseudo rapping all of his verses to the point where you can barely keep up. Once you actually try to slow things down, you'd be thankful that you didn't know what he was singing about. Even though this is a song that seems designed for the teeny bopper rock crowd, just hold on to your innocence and don't think about the verses that much.
