10 Rock Musicians With Surprising Day Jobs
3. Dave Rowntree (Blur) – Politician
Since Blur's heyday each member has gone on to have a pretty unique and impressive career. Damon Albarn created the genre defying act Gorillaz.
Alex James makes cheese while rubbing shoulders with England's gentry and Graham Coxon has his own record label. But drummer Dave Rowntree went down another route entirely.
From duking it out with the boys in Oasis for first place on Top of the Pop, Rowntree has gone on to taking on the conservative party. In 2017 he was elected as a Labour county councillor in Norwich.
If the video of Dave Rowntree discussing his election as a local Labour councillor is anything to go by, he's had a bit of a turn around since his days in Blur. His humbled but somewhat uninspiring post-win chat was a far-cry from the raucous interview he all but torpedoed with Nardwuar the Human Serviette back in 2003.
Back then he seemed like an obnoxious man child with an ego, overinflated by the fame of his band. But then again, wasn't that part of the fun of the Britpop era bands?
