10 Most Rock N' Roll Things That Have Ever Happened
8. Yngwie Malmsteen Loses It On A Flight
In the late 80s, Swedish shred-head Yngwie Malmsteen was hot property; his particular brand of neo-classical guitar playing was winning him fans around the globe and he was making big strides with his band, Rising Force. The famously-outspoken guitarist was well known for making his mouth go and had gotten himself into hot water a few times in the press with his rather forthright opinions, but it wasn't until one flight where he really made a name for himself. In 1988, Yngwie and his band were in a flight to Tokyo to play a handful of shows in Japan. As a young rockstar does when faced with a long flight and a first class seat, he decided to have a few drinks - which turned into a lot of drinks. At the height of his inebriation he was beginning to live up to his reputation of being a touch obnoxious, to the point where he allegedly started making disparaging comments about homosexuals. One of the women on the flight had clearly had enough by this point and showed her disapproval by pouring a glass of water over Yngwie's head. To say he didn't take kindly to this would be an understatement, Yngwie exploded with the poor woman and let rip a verbal tirade towards her, threatening all kind of unpleasant consequences. The crowning glory of this was in his drunken rage where he utters the immortal sentence "You've unleashed the f**king fury now!" One thing that can be said for Yngwie Malmsteen is that even in an apoplectic rage, you can't help but be amused by him. One of his bandmates recorded the incident and it was released on the internet in 2002 as an MP3, and what is even funnier is that Yngwie titled his 2005 album "Unleash The Fury" in a knowing little gag at his own expense.
