10 Most Rock N' Roll Things That Have Ever Happened
7. Nikki Sixx's Near Fatal Overdose
In 1987, Motley Crue and Guns N' Roses embarked on a tour that was so decadent, obscene and drug fuelled, it has descended to legend and possibly infamy; two of the biggest bands of the 80s let loose around North America with all the sex, drugs and rock n' roll they could ever want was never going to be anything but chaos. On December 23rd of that year, the band's bassist Nikki Sixx partied too hard; he was using heroin in huge amounts and overdosed in his hotel room. When the paramedics arrived, one of them happened to be a Motley Crue fan and was adamant that he wasn't going to let Sixx die. His heart had stopped and he had been clinically dead for two minutes, yet the paramedic gave him a hit of adrenaline straight to the heart with absolutely no effect. Before giving up and pronouncing Sixx dead, he did it again and the second dose got his heart beating again, bringing him back to life. Any incident like that would have been enough for most people to re-evaluate their place in this world, but not Sixx. He escaped from hospital that night, made it back to his hotel and started shooting up again. It wasn't until he woke up the next morning with a needle still in his arm that he realised what he needed to do and he checked himself into rehab. On the bright side, the incident led Sixx to write one of Motley Crue's biggest hits in Kickstart My Heart.
