10 Rock Songs That Artists Didn't Want To Record

3. Here Comes Your Man - The Pixies

The Pixies don't get mentioned nearly enough for starting what we now know today as alternative music. Being an influence on everyone from Nirvana to Bush to The Smashing Pumpkins, the way these East Coast natives pioneered the quiet-loud dynamics in rock and roll was super ahead of its time in the mid '80s. What was even more surprising is how much they loathed their biggest hit.

Coming from Doolittle, Here Comes Your Man is in essence a perfect pop song that Black Francis wrote when he was just a kid. Even though this has the makings of a hit all over it, there was pretty much no chance of it seeing a widespread release because of his disdain towards the track. However, something funny happened when producer Gil Norton caught them playing the song.

Asking them to play it again as a sort of joke, Norton rolled the tape and came up with the final version of what we now know as the song. After getting the basic track, it was just a matter of time before the rest of the song got underway, with the rest of the group urging Francis to finish the job. As such, Black Francis had to compromise his vision and the indie rock world was left with one of their biggest hits on the charts.
