10 Rock Songs That Insulted Other Musicians
6. I'll Stick Around - Foo Fighters
Ever since the ‘90s, musicians have gone out of their way to say as much as they want to about Courtney Love. While Kurt Cobain may no longer be here to speak on the subject, just ask some of the people she’s dated like Billy Corgan and Trent Reznor and they will probably tell you a few stories about the kind of horrors that they got into when they were together. Dave Grohl may have been right there when Mrs. Cobain started climbing the charts, but he was not necessarily happy about it.
Now free from the Nirvana moniker, the Foo Fighters’ debut opened up with a bang on I’ll Stick Around, with more than a few lines aimed directly at Courtney. Although Dave tried to bypass some of the lyrics by saying that he threw most of them together without thinking, it’s hard not to look at these and see exactly what he was going for, talking about Courtney’s “rehearsed insanity” and wanting to be as far away from her as possible.
Even if they were on good terms at one point, the rage fueled chorus about not owing this person anything cuts a little bit deeper, especially considering the lawsuits that would come out a few years later regarding some of the unreleased Nirvana songs. Dave might not have been the main songwriter in Nirvana, but it seemed like every time he heard about Courtney, it was like bringing up bad memories.
