10 Rock Songs That Insulted Other Musicians
5. Dude Looks Like a Lady - Aerosmith
In their prime in the ‘70s, Aerosmith were much more of a danger to themselves than they were to any of their rivals. Although they may have gotten more than a few comparisons to Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones back in the day, Steven Tyler always showed nothing but reverence for the bands that shaped them, and more often took out his aggression on his fellow bandmates like Joe Perry. When they finally got back together in the glamorous ‘80s though, they took a few cheap shots at how much the scene had changed.
As the band started work on the album Permanent Vacation, Tyler was walking along Sunset and saw what he thought was a beautiful girl across the street, only for her to turn around and be Vince Neil from Motley Crue. It may have been an awkward moment for sure, but Steven had to double down when it came time to write the lyrics, taking almost the entire scenario and making it much more funny affair, which only got more ridiculous when it came time to shoot the video, complete with one of their A&R reps starring as one of the girls with a Santa Claus-style beard.
For as much as the hook may have lingered, this song may have aged the poorest on this list, coming off as more than a little bit problematic these days. It may have just been a cheap joke back in the day, but if you just change the chorus these days, you should be good to go.
