10 Rock Songs That Ripped Off Other Songs

9. The Offspring's Fab Moment - Why Don't You Get a Job

The Offspring seemed to be on a more commercial hot streak during the late 90's. After releasing the most successful indie release ever with their breakthrough album Smash, the band spent the rest of the decade trying to create that lightning in a bottle energy again. While Americana featured many classics like "The Kids Aren't Alright," things start to get a little questionable once you hit "Why Don't You Get a Job."

From Dexter Holland's whine to the more nursery rhyme instrumental, the song sounds more like an infantile level of punk rock. Adding insult to injury, the song's origins show a bit more than the band probably intended. The chord progression, song structure, and even the main melody feels like a carbon copy of the Beatles' classic "Ob La Di Ob La Da."

Given the original's more quirky song structure, the band were most likely trying to recontextualize the song for a different audience, but the actual execution feels more cheap than authentic. Many people have pointed to this Beatles tune as the band's worst, but Paul McCartney's light-hearted delivery doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the Offspring's attempt. It was a noble effort trying to blend genres, but the results are borderline karaoke of a classic rock tune.
