10 Rock Songs That Were Written As A Joke
5. She's Electric - Oasis
Speaking of the Beatles, have you ever heard of this little band called Oasis? As they rose to the top as one of the biggest acts in the world of Britpop, people were quick to point out just how much the Gallagher Brothers loved the songwriting of Lennon and McCartney, down to the fact that they put Beatles references in their songs. And as they reached the top of the mountain, they didn’t even try to hide the influence on She’s Electric.
Being a sort of successor to Digsy’s Dinner off of Definitely Maybe, this is the kind of old time pop track that Paul McCartney was known for writing back in the day, going for the standard base level rhyme scheme as the rest of the track chugs along. Going off the lyrics and the melody, this whole song practically feels like some stoner nursery rhyme that Noel wrote one day, talking about this girl being in a family full of eccentrics and living together in domestic bliss.
And as if the granny music feel wasn’t enough, the breakdown sections have melodies lifted from Beatles songs as well, from Liam’s line on “and I want you to know” lifted from While My Guitar Gently Weeps to the “ah-ah” ending echoing the finale from With a Little Help From My Friends. The Beatles may have been the blueprint for the Gallaghers to make their millions, but they never forgot that the Fab Four knew how to be lighthearted when they wanted.
