10 Rock Songs That Were Written As A Joke

4. Vampire Money - My Chemical Romance

As the emo movement was reaching its maximum levels, the movie industry ended up cashing in hard on the trend with the Twilight series. No matter where you went in the late ‘00s, you couldn’t escape the pure camp that was coming from the stories about Edward Cullen’s sparkly vampire skin, and most bands lined up to get on the soundtrack. The most obvious emo band was always missing though, and My Chemical Romance came out cynical on their final album.

Included as the final song on Danger Days, Vampire Money is a complete kiss off to all of the bands that decide to sell out for the Twilight movies, as Gerard Way talks about how fun it is to cash in when you can. Starting things off almost as a successor to a song like Ballroom Blitz, the rest of the track has the band at their saltiest, talking about wearing the latest fashions and looking so cool in the eyes of the mainstream kids.

This wasn’t even their only salty song meant for the record, since the track We Don’t Need Another Song About California implying a jab at the Red Hot Chili Peppers. In fact, that might be why MCR went futuristic for their latest sound. The mainstream had come to them, so that meant it was time to change one more time.
