10 Rock Songs That Were Written As A Joke
4. The Rock Show - Blink-182
At the dawn of the '00s, there was no possible way of escaping the influx of pop punk going on across TRL. While other genres like the garage rock revival and nu metal were still doing okay, songs like Blink-182's All the Small Things were pretty much mandatory listening for any coming of age teenager. However, one of Blink's greatest hits was actually written at the last possible second.
Looking to go in a bit of a heavier direction on Take Off Your Pants and Jacket, Blink sent the album to their record label only to be told that there was no real single to promote the thing. Instead of just going back to the drawing board, Mark Hoppus and Tom Delonge got pissed off, vowing to go home and write the catchiest song that they could just to spite their critics. Coming with the most cliche lyrics he could, Hoppus' contribution turned into the Rock Show, which turned into one of the greatest hits Blink had had up until that point.
More than just a passing song, this was actually a good sign for Blink, showing that they could exist outside of the confines of their first major record Enema of the State. It may have not have had the best artistic intentions to start with, but that kind of attitude sometimes ends up being just the rocket fuel that you need.
