10 Rock Songs That Were Written As A Joke
5. Tribute - Tenacious D
I mean, isn't it obvious? When you're making a list of some of the greatest joke rock songs, it's almost mandatory to include Tenacious D somewhere in the mix. Though Jack Black and Kyle Gass have made a second career out of their joke songs, it's better to go back to the greatest song in the world that got the ball rolling.
It's almost a disservice knowing this is a joke song, given that the instrumentation around it is set up like a legitimately straightforward rock tune. Set to a typical storytelling chord progression, Jack Black starts to frame the scene of him and Rage Kage walking down the road only to come across a demon insisting that they play the greatest song in the world. Though you're expecting to hear said song in the process, we will not be seeing such feats of musical brilliance here.
Like the title implies, this is just a tribute to the greatest song in the world, with Black and Gass forgetting how the original version of the tune went. However, we do get some phenomenal guitar breaks and some ad-libs that show Jack Black at his most...well...Jack Black. These guys definitely have the chops to pull off one hell of a rock tune, but why would you when you have songs like this at your disposal?
