10 Rock Songs That Were Written As An Apology

9. Creatures of the Night - KISS

When writing apology songs, usually a broken love story is the easiest one to tackle. No one is perfect in a relationship, and you're going to need to apologize every now and again if you even stand a chance at going the distance. It can happen with every relationship out there...even the one between a band and their audience.

Because when KISS were stumbling into the '80s, it was not a fun time for the fans by any stretch. After the magic started to be lost with the departure of both Peter Criss and later Ace Frehley, the band started to go down different sonic avenues that didn't suit them in the slightest. While fans could appreciate the more power pop leaning sounds of a record like Unmasked, it started to get pretty unforgivable when they started to go conceptual with Music From the Elder, a pseudo concept album that made them look passe from the minute it came out.

The band needed something to put them back on top, and Creatures of the Night was the real mission statement for the next few years of the band, bringing in a bad attitude again and taking a few cues from the world of thrash metal to evoke the larger than life sound that they knew so well. The KISS that we knew may have been fumbling around in the dark for the past few years, but as soon as you heard Paul Stanley wail on the chorus to this song, you knew that the rock and roll superheroes were officially back in business.
