10 Rock Songs That Were Written As An Apology

3. All Apologies - Nirvana

It's never an easy thing to adjust to becoming an overnight success in the span of a few weeks. For all of the dreams that Kurt Cobain may have had of being one of the biggest pop stars in the world, he seemed immediately uncomfortable with it once it all came true, becoming the most unwilling Voice of his Generation that anyone could have asked for. That can lead to a lot of guilt being stored inside, and the last song on Nirvana's final album was Kurt's chance to let all of that loose.

For the majority of In Utero, you can tell that Kurt is having a rough time dealing with fame, not being satisfied with the riches that he has and finding it progressively harder to be happy for long periods of time. So now with a Beatles-esque melody playing on guitar, Kurt's message in this song is almost a plea to use him as the scapegoat for any problems you may have with the band or the grunge scene in general, beating the crap out of himself emotionally by saying that everything's his fault and he would be willing to live in shame if he needs to.

No one wanted to treat Kurt like this, but it was all that he was able to feel at that point, leading to more health problems and eventually ending with him killing himself just a few months after the record actually hit shelves. Kurt had already had problems with his emotions before this album, but from his tone of voice, he'd rather take in all the blame that people have to just feel any sort of emotion.
