10 Rock Songs Too Weird To Get Big
7. Cigaro - System of a Down
Most nu metal fans had their head thrown into a blender the first time they heard System of a Down. Aside from the weird callbacks to Armenian music, the powerful political messages laced throughout songs like Toxicity and Chop Suey were a lot more nuanced than something like Rollin by Limp Bizkit or Crawling by Linkin Park. Then again, it's not like things were all serious all the time.
On their dual albums Mesmerize and Hypnotize, most of System's lyrics revolve around protesting against the war in Iraq, with songs like BYOB and Hypnotize painting a grim picture at why people decide to use war as the last viable option. When it comes to Cigaro though, Daron Malakian decided to take a slightly more surrealist take on the war mongering going on around him, likening the constant need for destruction as world leaders providing a measurement of their...shall we say sexual organs.
Pretty much any idea of this being taken all that seriously from the outset is snuffed out the first time Daron opens his mouth, as he starts spewing out statements about he has a much bigger appendage than his counterpart. While there is a deeper message in this song if you look for it, the first few listens are probably listened to more for the laughs than anything else.
