10 Rock Songs Written Completely By Accident

9. Sweet Emotion - Aerosmith

Even when working in the studio, you always have those days where things just aren't coming together. You can try whatever kind of idea to make a song work, and yet you always manage to come up with zilch. So what do you do? Just make a collage of songs like Aerosmith did.

During the production for Toys in the Attic, producer Jack Douglas said that they needed another song and was wondering if anyone had any spare riffs lying around. Though Joe Perry was pretty much done, Tom Hamilton introduced the iconic bass riff which turned into the basis for Sweet Emotion. The lyrics seemed to be made up on the spot too, with Steven Tyler taking inspiration for the resentment that he felt towards Perry's girlfriend at the time.

Outside of the main hook line though, nothing really changes throughout the song, only moving to a different key to give it more of a "Zeppelin feel" in Tyler's own words. For a song that wasn't meant to be, it's still one of the band's most popular tunes and manages to get regular airplay to this day. All this from just a song that was made out of boredom than anything else.
