10 Rock Songs Written Completely By Accident

8. Pour Some Sugar On Me - Def Leppard

Out of all the big budget productions to come out of the '80s, Def Leppard's Hysteria is probably one of the most expensive albums ever made. Going through all hell, the lads from Sheffield endured grueling sessions, juggled different producers, and even lost their drummer's arm before they had the product they were satisfied with. So as you can imagine, the main hit Pour Some Sugar On Me took an astonishing 15 MINUTES to create.

On one of their last days of recording, Joe Elliot was working on the vocals for Armageddon It when producer Mutt Lange decided to take a coffee break to clear the air. Having an acoustic guitar around, Elliot started to sing what is now the chorus for Sugar when Mutt returned and convinced him to turn it into a song.

That wasn't what the record company wanted to hear though. Since this record was already in development for 3 years, adding one more song to the tracklist wasn't all that well received. Taking a few days to get the actual final lyrics, Leppard finally had a monster single on their hands, becoming one of the most essential pieces of '80s hard rock. Moral of the story: never underestimate the power of coffee, an acoustic guitar, and a good idea.
