10 Rock Songs Written Completely By Accident
6. Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Every band has that one moment where they've reached the point of no return. It could be an album, a song, or a show...but nothing is going to be the same after the world hears what they did. Although Under the Bridge showed us the talent that we weren't sure the Chili Peppers possessed, it actually came about as a fluke idea at Anthony Kiedis apartment.
When recording the album Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Rick Rubin began looking for songs and decided to go to Kiedis' house for ideas. Looking through every single lyrical scrap they could find, Rubin finally came upon a little poem that Anthony had wrote but never intended for the Chilis, which became the first few lines of Under the Bridge.
Not really feeling that it would be right, Kiedis even advised him to not let the rest of the band hear it, thinking it would not have been right for them to make at the time. Once the band actually got ahold of it though, John Frusciante managed to put together a guitar lick that would send the song into rock history, complete with that little flair of Jimi Hendrix to put everything into motion. After years of living in drug hell, this one little poem may have started the healing process for Anthony.
