10 Rock Songs You Didn't Know Were Covers
8. Train Kept A-Rollin - Aerosmith
Ever since the '70s, Train Kept ARollin has been picked up as a rock and roll standard for garage bands. With a trademark galloping rhythm setting things in the right direction, the push and pull of this Aerosmith classic is exactly the kind of thing that draws inexperienced listeners into the realm of rock and roll. Though this may have put Aerosmith up on a pedestal, it's not technically even their song.
Hell, this isn't even the first cover of the song to really hit it big. Long before the Bad Boys from Boston got underway, the original version of this track was a bluesy bit of rock and roll written by Tiny Bradshaw. Though it made the rounds in the English clubs, the real magic started when the Yardbirds got ahold of it, with Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck having the original rhythmic foundation in place.
Though it might seem sacrilege, Aerosmith's version blows the British Invasion classic out of the water, having the same speed and energy of the original amplified to the nth degree. By the time the mid-song drum roll kicks in, the band pulls back into one of the greatest swing grooves of their entire career. While Aerosmith were poised for stardom at this stage of their career, you can probably trace all of their amazing swagger down to this one song.
