10 Rock Stars That Completely Changed Their Genre

9. The Fireman

When you achieve a fame level as big as Paul McCartney, you can't really afford to do anything by yourself anymore. Even when you so much as blow your nose, you can bet your ass that someone will be there to document the proceedings to make sure you're okay or if the transaction is available on Spotify. The name does mean a lot, so how about you start from ground zero with a completely new one?

As much as Macca could have just coaxed by on goodwill off of the strength of his solo career, the Fireman is a bold new direction for him. Though we've seen the Cute Beatle tackle everything from indie to folk to even old time jazz and ragtime, this is a decisively electronic sounding project, which leans further into the styles of house music than anything else.

You don't skimp out on the McCartney charm though, as a lot of these songs sound like what the psychedelic '60s would have sounded like if it were birthed in the era of the rave rather than Woodstock. It's not like Paul isn't proud of these projects either, even going so far as to include the odd song in one of his solo setlists. Even though Paul can comfortably sit out the rest of his career if he wants to, it's records like this that shows he still has something to say.
