10 Rock Stars Who Never Wanted To Be Famous

6. George Harrison - The Beatles

It's impossible to overstate the madness that surrounded the Beatles' arrival on American soil in the early '60s. With Beatlemania firmly underway in their home country, the rabid female following that these lads from Liverpool had was almost the equivalent to hungry piranhas attacking a ham. It's a great gig if you can get it...that is, if you want it.

As the Fab Four were just starting to get the ball rolling, it was clear that John Lennon and Paul McCartney wanted to be rockstars, finding their early role models in guys like Elvis and Little Richard. Though George Harrison fit pretty snuggly into that category, his appreciation for rock music was much more about the technical ability that having scores of fans. Throughout the Beatles' ascent, Harrison always was the man who emphasized wanting to be good at his craft rather than being famous for it.

It's not really a mistake that Harrison only started to write songs a little while after the Beatles started to see success, with Lennon and McCartney giving him songs to sing in the early days. When he did write though, Harrison turned in some of the purest records of the group's career, from the aching While My Guitar Gently Weeps to the amazing ray of sunshine on Here Comes the Sun. Even though it took a while for Harrison to come out of his shell, he was known as the Quiet Beatle for a damn good reason.
