10 Scariest Albums Ever Made
3. Caligula - Lingua Ignota
It's tough pinning down what exactly makes a track scary. From one band to the next, artists may have to use lyrics or demented instrumentation to put a dark twist on their usual formula. Some people may have to switch up their formula from time to time, but Caligula is an album that is pitch black from the minute you start listening.
From start to finish, this album feels less like a musical piece and more like a cathartic experience for Lingua Ignota. Looking to move past the horrific experiences she had in the past, this album delves into the horrors of mental abuse, physical abuse, and everything else that comes with being in a toxic relationship. Regardless of which track you find yourself in, the music is basically a hodge podge of every intense genre you can think of, from the dark sides of classical music to noise rock to even black metal in some of Ignota's screams.
Whereas some bands tend to play up the more spooky elements of their sound, this album isn't pulling any punches and feels more like a diary from a tortured mind as they try to make their way out of the Hell they've been surrounded by. This album is definitely a trip, but if you're just starting out with heavy music, proceed with caution.
