10 Sellout Albums That Don't Suck
6. Dynasty - KISS
For most rock fans, selling out tends to be more of a subjective term. Even though fans might think that their favorite artists aren't trying once they make more commercial music, it might also just come down to an artist wanting to shake things up in their discography. If you wanted to make the case for pandering to an audience though, you can't do much worse than KISS' disco era on Dynasty.
As far as the hard rock fans were concerned, this is where the masked maniacs turned into a circus act, with I Was Made For Loving You sounding like it should be blaring out of a second rate disco than an actual rock club. Once you get past the shock factor of the first song though, this is still one of the best rock records that the original lineup had ever attempted.
Although it is a bummer knowing that Peter Criss wasn't as involved in the process outside of the song Dirty Livin, this is actually a tour de force for Ace Frehley, having a hand in tracks like Save Your Love and calling back to the Stones for 2000 Man. Paul Stanley certainly isn't a slouch either, with Sure Know Something turning into one of the band's greatest ballads. Just like time has turned around on disco over the years, it's about time that we do the same for Dynasty.
