10 Sellout Albums That Don't Suck

7. Get a Grip - Aerosmith

For all the fans of the bluesier days of Aerosmith, the start of the '90s must have been a really rough time for you. Even though their resurgence in the '80s as a hair metal adjacent band was fine, this marked the point where Steven Tyler and the gang turned in their bluesy chops for a pop polish that they wouldn't soon recover from. If we were judging solely on song quality though, Get a Grip marks the moment where the sellout phase started to actually pay off.

Granted, it's not like these songs have the same kind of punch of what we got used to on albums like Rocks or Toys in the Attic. Aerosmith were clearly aiming for the crossover that they wanted, which ended up producing some damn good tracks like Eat the Rich and Shut Up and Dance. There are also some weird bits on this album like Walk on Down, which puts a little more boogie into the mix and has Joe Perry on lead vocals.

Even the ballads on here served as the gateway for young rock fans to get into the Toxic Twins, with Crazy and Cryin becoming staples of the Alicia Silverstone era of the group. While the dark times were just around the corner, this was one of the last albums where Aerosmith felt like they were having fun.
