10 Shocking Music Videos From Big-Name Artists

5. MIA - Born Free

Maya Arulpragasam is no stranger to controversy. In 2012, she flicked a middle finger while performing during the Super Bowl half-time, and was sued $1.5million by the NFL. That's a costly finger.

Just two years earlier however, she'd done a Justice, and released a video appearing to persecute a minority group in society. Where Justice had focussed on North African and Middle Eastern kids though, director Roman Gavras centred the plot of 'Born Free' on one of the lesser focused-on minorities. He chose to focus on the genocide of ginger-haired people.

The film not only shocked the world, it earned its attention, as everyone immediately spotted the political allegory (which you'd hope they would, she'd be pretty twisted to glorify the murder of redheads). Many felt that the US media were hesitant to talk about the video, perhaps because of the Arizona immigration laws that were being passed at the time.
