10 Song Collaborations That Happened By Accident
1. Adding Slowhand Out Of Spite - While My Guitar Gently Weeps
By the late 60's, the Beatles were coming out with some of the greatest material they would ever create in the studio. Fresh off their enlightening experiences with meditation in India, the band had enough astounding material for a double record, which was released as the self-titled White Album in 1968. While the band's work was amazing, the one additional guest musician actually came out of spite.
Throughout the sessions, the band were becoming less collaborative with their ideas and ended up making snide comments about each other's work, with George Harrison especially detested. After his song "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" wasn't being taken seriously, Harrison was out one day with Eric Clapton and casually asked him to play guitar on the song.
Clapton initially responded with a lot of trepidation, given that no one had been featured on a Beatles song before. However, Slowhand's inclusion was exactly what was needed to calm the band's nerves, which turned Harrison's song into one of the best tracks on the record.
Instead of being dismissive, the rest of the band were inspired by the guest and contributed some of the most pained vocals of their career. The White Album may have its fair share of sore spots behind the scenes, but the leads from Eric Clapton were just the ticket to relieve the bad blood.
