10 Song Collaborations That Happened By Accident
7. All Of Temple Of The Dog - Temple Of The Dog
When grunge broke onto the hard rock scene in the early 90's, it almost felt like a mistake. As opposed to rockstars that were dressed to the 9's, these guys were just casual folks in street clothes making some of the most powerful rock music ever heard. If it was all just a fluke, then Temple of the Dog has to be one of the greatest happy accidents to ever come out of hard rock.
After the death of Mother Love Bone singer Andy Wood, Soundgarden's Chris Cornell found a way to deal with his grief through music. Cornell compiled a couple songs that were directed at his old friend like "Reach Down" and "Say Hello 2 Heaven," but never really had any intention of releasing it. However, things began to turn in a different direction once Stone Gossard heard the demos.
With much reverence, Cornell eventually asked the former members of Mother Love Bone if they wanted to record these songs as a tribute to their friend. Ending up as a full record, Temple of the Dog not only helped heal the wounds of Mother Love Bone, but also gave Gossard and bassist Jeff Ament a second wind once they stumbled upon singer Eddie Vedder during the recording. From this one coincidental record, the world got the next phase of Soundgarden and the birth of Pearl Jam in one go.
