10 Song Meanings EVERYONE Gets Wrong
2. Hey Ya - OutKast
If you were anywhere near a radio during the mid '00s, you couldn't really escape Hey Ya. After being one of the biggest names in hip hop for the better part of a decade, this became the biggest song of OutKast's career, with Andre 3000 showing his love of old school pop music and putting his own unique spin on things.
Granted, the melody might be a little too good, almost as if you're not realizing the sad story happening underneath.
Going in a bit of a deeper route than most love songs, Andre decides to sing about how love seems to be going to sh*t in this day and age, with people getting into relationships because it's comfortable, rather than for the sake of being happy. It's all right there in the breakdown too, when they talk about why love is the exception to nothing lasting forever.
By the end of the track, Andre all but gives up on trying to make the audience pay attention, saying that they don't even want to hear him and would much rather dance instead.
While this still remains a hallmark of the '00s and a staple of pop radio, just be careful for the big "WAKE UP SHEEP" moments going on behind the killer backbeat.
